New World Symphony - a new concert hall
Monday, May 17, 2010
Visit the above site for an introduction to the new home of Michael Tilson Thomas’ New World Symphony in Miami.
Repeating the success of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the project brought together the same design team: architect Frank Gehry, acoustician Yasu Toyota, and theatre design consultant, Theatre Projects.
Theatre Projects has long been a pioneer of the flexible concert hall with many examples including halls in Singapore, Calgary, Philadelphia and our first in Nottingham, England.
Like the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, New World creates a totally transformable environment within the hall.
In Miami every facet of the interior can receive powerful video projections creating the potential for a three dimensional surround visual accompaniment to the music. Additionally the building is equipped for Internet 2, hi-speed web two-way interconnection to a world-wide audience.
